Pr. LéveillardThe truncated thioredoxin Rod-derived Cone Viability Factor induces cone survival by stimulating aerobic glycolysis will be the focus of Pr. Léveillard during the 15th International Conference on Oxidative Stress Reduction, Redox Homeostasis & Antioxidants which will be held at Pasteur Institute, Paris on June 22-24, 2015.

"Rod-derived Cone Viability Factor (RdCVF) is an inactive thioredoxin secreted by rod photoreceptors that protects cones. It is a splicing variant of the nucleoredoxin-like 1 gene which also encodes for the thioredoxin RdCVFL that prevents photo-oxidative retinal damage. Because the secondary loss of cones in retinitis pigmentosa is leading to blindness, the administration of RdCVF is a promising therapy independent of the causative gene for this untreatable neurodegenerative disease. Increased glucose promotes cone survival by stimulation of aerobic glycolysis."
