Stem cell regenerative decline with aging: role of oxidative stress will be presented by Pr. Muñoz-Cánoves

MunozPr. Pura Muñoz-Cánoves from ICREA and Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, Spain is going to give a talk about Stem cell regenerative decline with aging: role of oxidative stress during Paris Redox 2016.

According to Pr. Muñoz-Cánoves stem cells of skeletal muscle (satellite cells) lose their regenerative capacity with aging. Understanding the underlying mechanisms is therefore vital for muscle tissue homeostasis. Pr. Muñoz-Cánoves and her team's recent results have demonstrated accumulation of damaged mitochondria and enhanced levels of ROS in aged satellite cells, correlating with their functional decline. They are investigating the mechanisms underlying mitochondrial dysfunction and the consequences of ROS inhibition on the potential restoration of muscle regenerative capacity in aged mice.
